Ask someone what there is to do in Columbus County, and you might be surprised by the answer.

Our county is made up of small towns and communities, each with its own personality and story to tell. Whether you're looking for outdoor adventure, a relaxing weekend, family fun, great local food, shopping, or a little history, you'll find plenty of reasons to spend time here.

Across our 954 Square Miles of Amazing, you can paddle a blackwater river, spend the day at Lake Waccamaw, explore museums, browse local shops, enjoy a hometown festival, or simply take a drive through some of the prettiest countryside in southeastern North Carolina. Every season offers something different, which means no two visits have to be the same.

One of the best parts of visiting Columbus County is taking your time. Stop for lunch at a locally owned restaurant. Visit one of our afternoon open-air markets or browse an antique shop. Strike up a conversation with a shop owner or someone sitting on a bench downtown. That's where you'll hear the stories that make this place special.

If one day isn't enough and it usually isn't, consider staying the weekend. Columbus County has a growing number of short-term vacation rentals available through Airbnb, VRBO, and other rental sites. Whether you're looking for a cozy cabin, a lakefront cottage, a farmhouse, or a home large enough for the whole family, you'll find a comfortable place to stay while you explore. It's a great way to slow down, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and discover more of what the county has to offer.

No matter what brings you here, don't be afraid to wander a little. Take the road you've never traveled before. Stop when something catches your eye. You never know what you'll find; a local festival, a quiet walking trail, a family-owned business, or a place you'll want to visit again.

Columbus County isn't a place to rush through. It's a place to experience.

We invite you to stay awhile, explore our communities, and discover for yourself why so many people are finding there's more to Columbus County than they ever expected.

After all, there's a reason we call it 954 Square Miles of Amazing.
